Accounting Treasure Hunt for Investor Relations
Seminar Objective:
To introduce the subject of financial statement analysis to investor relations professionals who have limited training or experience in finance or accounting.
Specific Objectives:
At the conclusion of this one-day seminar, you will be able to:
Describe the structure and purpose of four basic financial statements:
1. Balance Sheet
2. Income Statement
3. Cash Flow Statement
4. Statement of Shareholders' Equity
Construct the balance sheet and income statement for a hypothetical company
Describe the finances of this hypothetical company to a financial analyst
Identify accounts that belong on each statement
Demonstrate how financial statements work together to give investors an overview of a company over a period of time
Explain basic accounting rules (GAAP)
List the primary reports that must be filed with the SEC
Outline key elements of a company's annual report
Find specific information in a company's annual report
Describe the purpose of an audit and what to look for when reading an audit report
Calculate P/E and other common financial ratios (bring your calculator)
Show the impact of stock options on financial statements.
